BT Global Services selects Edvantage group to provide content development tool to the UK Ministry of Defence

BT Global Services, part of BT group, has selected Edvantage group, a pioneer in e-learning solutions, to provide CourseBuilder, a content development tool, and e-learning services to their customer, the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD). This agreement is expected to significantly increase the ease and speed with which content developers and subject matter experts at the Defence Learning Portal can create high-quality e-learning experiences for up to 320,000 military and civilian personnel.

As part of the initial twelve month agreement, sixty-five content developers will use CourseBuilder to create rich, interactive courses and training materials. Edvantage group will also provide a range of services including training, customisation, consulting, and support. Seamless interoperability between CourseBuilder and the Defence Learning Portal will enable courses and training materials to be distributed to learners around the world.

The Defence Learning Portal has content development tools already, but was looking to offer more variety and cost effectiveness in collaborating online, managing the development process and keeping training materials updated. "The procurement process attracted widespread interest from a broad range of highly respected vendors in the e-learning industry," says, Mark Peart, BT Global Services. "We chose Edvantage group because of their powerful authoring tool, their e-learning expertise and the value-added services. CourseBuilder impressed us, with its ease of use, extensive feature set, and web-based collaboration features - and it met rigorous requirements for security."

"We are very pleased that BT Global Services has selected Edvantage group and we look forward to serving their needs and those of MOD," says Andrew Greaves, Managing Director, Edvantage group, UK. "This agreement confirms our competitive advantage and proves that our solution approach is appreciated by customers."

With this agreement, MOD joins national defence organisations in two other countries as customers to Edvantage group. New opportunities also arise for NATO-countries to develop and share training materials through CourseBuilder, levering significant advantage to the creation and delivery of learning and training solutions.

About the Defence Learning Portal

The Defence Learning Portal (DLP) is a collection of services designed to provide fast, efficient and cost-effective learning.  It is used to deliver new distributed e-learning courses for the Ministry of Defence via both the MOD web and the Internet to meet its online learning needs.  It incorporates learning management information and the ability to store, manage and develop re-usable e-learning content, reducing the cost of e-learning development.

The DLP is a 10-year £40 million plus programme designed to bring e-learning services to every area of the MoD. It will become available to everyone in the MoD, both military and civilian, with a potential user base of 320,000 personnel.
