Jotun: Building the skills and competence of a global workforce
Jotun, one of the world's major manufacturers of paints, coatings and powder coatings, is using e-learning to build the skills and competence of its growing workforce of over 5,500 employees in 68 countries.
Together with Edvantage group, the company rolled out the first courses on a corporate-wide learning management system (LMS) in 2007. While cost savings are important, the ability to provide more employees with useful information and knowledge they can use every day, has been more important.
Jotun’s e-learning initiatives are quickly increasing, based on their successful experience to date. In addition to using traditional sales kick-offs, Jotun is now looking to drive sales by creating dynamic, online product training. Using Edvantage group’s tools and methodology, the company will be able to roll-out products faster by providing salespeople with an interactive way to learn about product features and test themselves in virtual sales situations.
StatoilHydro: Building strong values and high ethical standards in an international energy company
StatoilHydro is an international integrated energy company, based in Norway. The company is the leading oil and gas operator on the Norwegian continental shelf (NCS) and has operations in 40 countries.
Edvantage group has been a learning partner to StatoilHydro since 2002, helping the company to build knowledge among employees, focusing on its strong value-based culture for performance, high ethical standards and care for both the environment and society. Edvantage group has developed six highly engaging interactive e-learning programmes for the company, using a mix of innovative e-learning and blended learning approaches.
The programmes have a wide range of goals and themes, from health, safety and environmental training, to leadership development. In 2007, Edvantage group was also selected to produce an e-learning programme on well cementing, a key process in assuring optimisation and safety of oil drill holes.
Halifax Bank of Scotland: Combining compliance training and personal development, and delivering learning programmes across a major financial institution
HBOS plc was established in September 2001 with the merger of the Halifax Building Society and the Bank of Scotland, making them the fifth largest financial services company in the UK. Launched as ‘the new force,’ HBOS set out to be the fastest growing financial services business in the UK, promising customers innovative products and value for money. The company currently employs 65,000 people in the UK, and 76,000 worldwide.
Edvantage group has worked closely with HBOS since 2004 providing a learning management system and project-based e-learning solutions for different sectors of the company. It became apparent at an early stage that e-learning was an ideal solution for creating and deploying training quickly to HBOS’s dispersed workforce in a compliant-rich industry. Analysis from one of HBOS University’s major accounts indicated that 89% of users felt they could apply the knowledge and skills gained from their course to help them perform their job better, and 84% felt that e-learning was an effective way for them to learn.
Following the success of the overall e-learning provision, late 2007 saw a rationalisation of projects into HBOS University. There are plans to improve the services further in 2008, building on the strong success to date.
